The benefits of natural light

We’ve banged on quite a bit about why you should install a skylight here on our blog. And one of the most common advantages we bring up is that artificial light is actually good for.

And we thought, seeing as we say it so often, we should look a little closer at it.

So here, we’ve looked at the benefits of natural light a little closer!

  • Around 50% of the energy used in a home is for lighting and temperature control. Natural light allows the home owner to use less heat, less air con and reduces the need for artificial light. All of which can lead to significant savings.
  • Compared to other lighting methods natural lighting is one of the safest on your eyes. It reduces eye strain and makes it much easier for you to see!
  • Vitamin D is essential. And the main resource of vitamin D? Exposure to natural sunlight. The vitamin has a variety of benefits including immune system regulation, asthma symptom control, body weight care, and can help the brain run efficiently in later life.
  • Science suggests that just by being exposed to natural light, you feel in a better mood. So if you’re feeling a little depressed natural light can give you a boost.
  • Natural light can help reduce the amount of mould or mildew growing in your home.
  • As well as its health and energy benefits, natural light can improve the aesthetics of a space. Interior designers often use it to make a room appear larger, illuminate structures and just make an area look much better.
  • It’s much cleaner than artificial light and works towards preserving the environment.
  • Studies have shown that natural light helps people become more productive, remain happy, stay healthy and lead a much calmer lifestyle. And who doesn’t want that?

So, I’m guessing you want to enjoy all these benefits. And all you have to do is install a skylight! Why wouldn’t you!?
